A Sunday roast on a Saturday

Toby carvery Stanway

A Christmas shopping break

My fiancee, my mother in law and I had been out Christmas shopping. My fiancee was looking to spend her birthday money too!

We decided to call in at the Toby carvery in Stanway, Colchester. My personal trepidation was I must admit, unfounded, it was a fantastic meal. With a great atmosphere all 3 of us enjoyed our meal, Thanks to my mother in law!

After a small deliberation over something that was unfortunately unavailable I chose the full Roast, going large. I chose the Pork with Lincolnshire sausages and you cannot have pork without crackling the veg  (which is not my biggest fandom) was amazing.

My mother in law chose the beef. My fiancee is a vegetarian and chose the Mushroom Tart and I am pleased to report no complaints.

Moving on,

The ladies chose the Profiteroles and me the Eton mess. The Profiteroles were filled with Cream, instead of Ice cream or other derivatives.

value for money

It is not my place to overly comment on the bill but it was a pleasant surprise and has I must report improved my image of Carvery meals but then as my fiancee will vouch for I have a good healthy appetite which you wouldn’t guess by my figure.

All in all I would more than recommend the Toby carvery in Stanway to all of friendlytravelguides readership.

Visiting Colchester maybe for  a shopping trip or maybe before a visit to the Wimpey homes Stadium to see your team play Colchester United.

A good stop for some lovely traditional roast cooked food whatever the reason, the Toby carvery is a great choice.
